Salem Union has been running English courses in the city since it was founded in the late 1990s. These have always been high quality accessible TEFL courses for local people using established teaching materials and with native English speakers on the teaching staff.
The English course curriculum at the Social Village includes additional material to raise awareness of global issues such as poverty. We also encourage our students to take part in our social action projects by volunteering with us (see below).
Alongside our English Courses and the Conversation Clubs where students can practice conversational English with a native speaker, we teach Global Citizen Leadership classes in English. This is a further means of raising awareness of global issues and helping students to consider how they can respond to those in need around them.
We teach the following classes:
|Children (up to 14)||Students (over 14)|
|Tempo 1a||Elementary I|
|Tempo 1b||Elementary II|
|Tempo 2a||Pre-Intermediate I|
|Tempo 2b||Pre-Intermediate II|
|Tempo 3a||Intermediate I|
|Tempo 3b||Intermediate II|
|Upper Intermediate I|
|Upper Intermediate II|
All classes are run with 40 hours of classroom time per semester over a period of about 9 weeks, with three classes a week. Please enquire for specific class schedules by calling us on 31-87-32.
Courses cost 25,000T per semester (plus 8,000T for textbooks) for children and 22,300T (plus 7,700T for textbooks) for students.
Returning students and multiple students from a single family can claim a discount of 1,000T per semester.

Inclusive and Accessible
We want to make our classes accessible to everyone, regardless of their background, whenever we can. We have a small scholarship programme each semester to enable students who otherwise wouldn’t be able to take an English course to study with us. Please contact us if you’re interested.
