At Salem Social Village, Conversation Clubs, where students can practice their English in a structured but informal setting, are very popular. Students, school-aged teenagers and young professionals happily gather in the cafe to improve their speaking skills with an American tutor. The warm welcoming atmosphere of Salem Social Cafe is of course a great place to relax, talk and gain confidence.
Even though some of those who come have to travel fairly long distances into or across the city to just get to the Social Village, the numbers attending Conversation Club have been steadily growing.
In February, a group of students who live in a village some way out of the city got together to pay for a minibus so that they could visit Conversation Club at Salem and spend some time with a native English speaker. We are really glad that we can help people learn a language that opens many opportunities in life, not only for young people or those in the city, but also for those in deprived areas beyond the city.
